Poseidon's Trident

With the beauty of the Florida Keys, also comes the remnants of the old town – that of a US Naval Base and massive commercial seaport, at one time the richest town in all of Florida. As I regarded the cloud bank hovering over the Atlantic Ocean before sunrise on this winter morning, I became mesmerized by the three concrete pilings of the old pier, stretching towards the horizon. I recalled a myth I learned while in High School, of Poseidon striking down with his Trident on the island of Delos, affixing it to the ocean floor to provide stability for the people. As I continued to gaze out at the Atlantic as the sun began to rise, I setup my shot, a super-long exposure to capture where “Poseidon” had struck down with his Trident in Key West, providing the pilings of the piers for the people of the Island.
