Chroma Eucalyptus : Prints Available

Limited Edition of 100

Recalling my first ever trip to Hawai’i, I remember being amazed at the colors of the Rainbow Eucalyptus trees scattered around the islands. The vibrant colors of the peeling bark and the regenerative properties of the trees were astounding to me. Ten years later, I decided to return to Maui and properly photograph the Eucalyptus. I had heard rumors that groves of these beautiful trees existed along the Road to Hana, so I began my search there. After hundreds of shots and days along the road exploring arboretums, botanical gardens, wayside stops, and small pullovers, I found the perfect grove. With a light drizzle, the already vibrant color of these trees seemed otherworldly. I found my composition and snapped shot after shot, finally capturing the ideal of Chroma Eucalyptus.

Serenity : Prints Available

Limited Edition of 100

Breathing in the briny aroma of the south Florida Keys, I gaze in awe as the turquoise waters stretch out before me. The boat jetty stretched towards the horizon, glistening in the midday sun. I grew up on the water – docks and lobster boats in Maine, but in the Florida Keys the rich colors of the sky, the whiteness of the clouds, and the deep hues of the water are in a stratosphere all alone. I wanted to capture this beauty in a style that would bring the fullness of the scene alive. Focusing in on the jetty, I took shot after shot, ensuring I had this perfect moment capturing on film.

Secret Cove : Prints Available

Limited Edition of 100

Sunsets in Hawai’i are some of the most beautiful I have ever witnessed. Along the small island beach on the west shore of Maui, I found myself scrambling to find the right composition at Secret Beach. I’d spent a number of sunsets and sunrises each trip over the past 4 years at this location, trying to get the perfect capture. And yet I had never quiet found my voice. I felt as though I just hadn’t connected everything together in that perfect way that awakens something inside of me screaming, “This is the shot!” As the sun began to dip below Kaho’olawe I suddenly found my voice, I had found my vision! With waves crashing along the black volcanic rocks and the fading sun illuminating the palm trees above the water, I’d at last found the secret of Secret Beach.

Summer Everlasting : Prints Available

Limited Edition of 100

I whispered a prayer into the light breeze, finally knowing a perfect Florida scene. Suspended by two flawless palms, a hammock swayed in that restless breeze along perfectly white Keys sand. I wanted this moment. With barely a cloud in the sky, I climbed high atop a stack of rickety chairs, stacked one on top of the other, trying for the perfect perspective. Balancing on the chairs, I setup my tripod and framed the shot, finally capturing the image as the breeze rustled the palms and caressed the white sand beach. I knew moving down to Florida that I would be treated to scenes like this, where summer can be everlasting.

Limited Edition of 100

I awoke to a dark and stormy sky. A light drizzle drummed softly on the roof as I peered out the windows considering the chances of catching the morning light for sunrise. “Minimal,” I thought. I knew with absolute certainty I needed rest before another long day shooting on Maui. But sometimes, even the smallest opportunity for success is enough. Rolling out of bed, I gathered my gear and began my drive to Mama’s Fish House – a 45 minute stretch through old sugar cane fields, for the slightest opportunity I might see some light among the shore palms. Perched on the beach at Mama’s as the drizzle finally let up, I noticed the sky to the north began to clear as the sun began to rise. Within minutes, blue sky burst through the cloud cover as the early sunlight beat back the storm. Moments later, as I was framing a different shot, a magnificent rainbow appeared on the horizon. It was a perfect moment on Maui. Adjusted my composition, I captured a beautiful image – a reward for my perseverance.

New York City: New Releases!

New York City holds a special place in my heart as I lived there for two years in my mid-20s. I wanted images to communicate the epic grandeur that I feel whenever I return for a visit. I hope you enjoy these four captures!

City That Never Sleeps : Prints Available

Limited Edition of 100

The New York City skyline is iconic in its majesty. It is recognized around the world as the Big Apple, Gotham, and Metropolis. I lived in New York for two years and the name that always stuck with me, my favorite by far, was ‘The City That Never Sleeps’. I recall nights that stretched deep into the pre-dawn darkness and early morning wakeups to catch flights or trains for work. Walking these streets, I was never alone, never without company – and I knew I had to capture that feeling. Finding my location, I spent evening after evening waiting for the perfect conditions. After almost a week, I walked to my spot as the bank of clouds above the city began to break apart; I realized I had my shot of the city. Positioning my camera to capture the perfect panoramic, I finally had my image – The City That Never Sleeps.

Metropolis : Prints Available

Limited Edition of 100

My favorite spot in NYC to bring visiting friends and family was Top of the Rock. From the top of Rockefeller’s masterpiece, the entirety of New York City spread out before you. To the north stretched majestic Central Park, in the East stood Long Island and the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn, and to the west the Hudson gave way to the shores of New York and New Jersey. It is to the south however where the eye is drawn. As the sun began its quick descent on a frigid winter afternoon, I setup my camera – marveling at the scene yet again. The twinkle of the city lights stretching from midtown to the Statute of Liberty and beyond were the perfect accompaniment as the sky began to glow orange, pink, and yellow. New York City had been my home for two years but it wasn’t until this moment that I’d finally captured the beauty of Metropolis.

Strength of Manhattan : Prints Available

Limited Edition of 100

The Manhattan Bridge, with its strong steel rising from the sunken pylons, is a symbol of Manhattan. I needed a shot to showcase that strength, to spark the imagination! I envisioned a powerful yet mysterious shot of the Manhattan Bridge, a bridge spanning to the unknown. On one of my last days in New York snow flurries blew in, the first winter storm of the season. As the sun began to rise over Brooklyn, I found my perspective under the bridge to capture my vision. The heavy snows began to fall, obscuring the far shore across the East River, and I had my image.

Brooklyn Corssings : Prints Available

Limited Edition of 100

Spanning the East River are the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges; monolithic testaments to human ingenuity and perseverance. On one of the longest days of the year, with a full moon overhead, I endeavored to capture the iconic scene from the water. The glow of the city lights cast an incredible aura over the scene as captured the two bridges in their winter majesty.

Ted Talks: Two Questions About The Work

Enchanting. Soothing. Reminiscent. Captivating.

These are just a few of the adjectives I hear every weekend about my work. It is a goal of mine I keep floating in the back of my mind – to elicit these types of responses – as I seek out new scenes to photograph. My imagination is my canvas and as I flip through book after book of Ansel Adams, Andreas Gursky, and Galen Rowell. I have a vision in my mind, and I am searching for the location that may provide me the canvas to execute the vision.

My goal is to Stir the Soul – to create beautiful artwork of the natural world.

My vision involves the perfect composition, beautiful lighting, and fantastic display all with the goal of creating something beautiful – to stir the soul. I don’t mind that people believe my art to be surreal or unbelievable (literally they don’t believe I took the photograph!). My goal is to Stir the Soul – to create beautiful artwork of the natural world. However, my work and the feelings it elicits often comes with questions – “How did you do this!?” being a very common rhetorical one. Two other questions though may be more important than that.
